PURPOSE
| CLSIS records information about client access to Family Violence Prevention Legal Services (FVPLS) and Community Legal Services (CLS). |
DESCRIPTION
| CLSIS captures demographic information about clients accessing community legal services and family violence prevention legal services as well as what assistance the client received and the type of legal problem that the client had. CLSIS also captures data about the number of law reform and legal policy activities undertaken by community legal centres. CLSIS captures information about public interest test cases, numbers of cases open, opened and closed during a particular period. CLSIS also includes a domestic violence indicator. Currently, data are only published in relation to Community Legal Services programs. |
DEFINITION OF FAMILY AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Family and Domestic Violence is defined by relevant legislation in the state or territory in which each Community Legal Service or Family Violence Prevention Legal Services operates.
Operationally, a Family/Domestic Violence flag is used in CLSIS to indicate whether domestic violence is an issue in advice and casework.
Aspects of family and domestic violence included in the data are:
- physical abuse;
- sexual abuse;
- psychological /emotional abuse;
- verbal abuse;
- economic abuse;
- social abuse;
- property damage; and
- harassment and stalking

COLLECTION METHODOLOGY
All CLSIS data are de-identified. CLSIS data are collected through the Community Legal Service Program (CLS) and Family Violence Prevention Legal Services (FVPLS) funding recipients.

COLLECTION HISTORY
Collection commenced: The Community Legal Service Information System (CLSIS) database has been used for data collection by Community Legal Services across Australia since 2003 and is a requirement of the funding Service Level Agreement.

Other details: It has been recommended that services enter past cases to ensure a complete client database.
